The 34th annual Kachemak Bay Shorebird Festival signature bird the super-speedy, super-awesome American golden-plover! This shorebird travels over 20,000 miles each year, a long way for a little bird. We hope to aim the spotlight right on the golden-plover, not just to show off its beautiful plumage, but to shed light on conservation matters at hand – how can we better protect and learn from these smart birds whose numbers are dwindling? If you have a chance to spot this bird during the festival, be sure to ask it all about its long and arduous journey; and wish it good luck as it heads onwards to breed in the Arctic tundra.
